On Monday 23rd July 2012, over 50 students aged between 14 and 19 arrived at Liverpool John Moores University Art and Design Academy (ADA) to take part in the PLACED Summer School. This 4 day course was offered to students across the country with an interest in architecture, design and urban planning to provide them with a unique insight into construction / design based careers and to teach them the essential skills necessary for university and working in practice.
I was pleased to be asked by PLACED to help out with generating the content, structure and outcomes for the course in the months leading up to the event and thoroughly enjoyed mentoring the students over the 4 days.
Although all from different schools and backgrounds, the students worked well together in their groups and came up with innovative concept models, interesting drawings and detailed site analysis which was all focused around the central idea of a ‘Celebration in the City’. The students concluded their course with a well attended exhibition in the foyer of the ADA.
